Dana | Studio Boudoir

Our studio is always changing. New looks. Fresh looks. Sometimes we shoot in a much darker environment. Sometimes lighter. And sometimes, we like to create a dark studio that features lots of lights in the background. I doubt we’ve had more lights than this wonderful session with Dana. In addition to the many, many battery-powered candles that Jamie purchased for out studio, we also had sheets of Christmas lights still hanging from the bed wall of the studio. After taking a look back through these images, I’m convinced that I need to bring these lights out more often. They don’t have to be a holiday thing. They can be a magical thing.

Okay, let’s chat about the four images below. If you have followed us for any length of time, you might have heard us mention that the vast majority of our clients come to the session with absolutely zero outfits. And we’re fine with that. As with the candles, Jamie has gone overboard in stocking our client closet with over 700 outfits in all kinds of sizes, colors, and styles. We’ve got you covered when it comes to outfits. “We’ve Got You Covered” might not be the best slogan for a boudoir photography company, on second thought. Back to Dana. She brought along a nun’s outfit that to me, has a historic feel to it. I think of the Spanish Inquisition, which no one saw coming, along with all the drama that took place during that period, complete with dungeons, castles, and cathedrals. With the background lights, Dana seems lifted from the pages of history and onto a Broadway stage for a musical about a nun…being a little naughty. There may have been some pretend consequences included.

For another look, we also dropped our grey paper backdrop in the studio to create some images that really show off her physique, and side lighting is always great for that. It’s one of the main lighting setups that Sports Illustrated used to feature athletes on their iconic covers…at least when they were still in business. Dana brought some fun poses to this part of the session. This background and lighting are also great for creating artistic nudes, and we did a few shots along those lines that we’ll just keep under wraps, but they were stellar. And can we talk about that colorful hair?? No? Fine.

Three more images. The first and third are taken in front of what I like to call our Fantasy Background, which Jamie ordered for us. It’s one of our favorites, and it was a great background for Dana in this outfit. The middle image is from one of the fun lollipop segments that we often include in our sessions.
