Averi | Water Boudoir

Averi came to us to do a water session, and thankfully, we have a wonderful pond available at the farm of Adrienne, our female set assistant! (We always have a female set assistant on hand to help with any clothing item that needs to be adjusted since I keep a respectable distance as a photographer.)

We love to start these sessions about an hour before sunset. That way, we take advantage of that magical time that photographers call the golden hour. Then once the sun goes down, we have about an hour to create more portraits while allowing the colors of the late-evening sun to soak into the images, as you can see in the two images below. I put my camera on a tripod for these photos since long exposures are required. By the way, that was a real lamp that I plugged into a power adapter that my brother gave me. You can see the adapter with the green light on the bottom-right of the bench. (These images are mostly unedited.) The lamp in the image is fun, but there’s a chance that I’ll edit the lamp out of the versions of these images that are included in her album. (We like our clients to shine…not our props.)

What is the fun of doing a water shoot if you can’t play in the water?? After we created some images featuring fun reflections, Averi had fun splashing water toward the camera. Don’t worry…I always stand far enough and shoot with a longer lens. These shots always turn out to be a lot of fun, and we usually have at least 10 for clients to select from.

When the warm weather returns in 2024, we’ll continue offering our water sessions at this scenic pond in addition to using the spacious pool at our studio. But why wait until next year? We also have a heavy claw-foot, cast-iron tub that we can fill with water hot enough to counter any cold day!
